Four-year National Doctoral Programme in Virus Infections and Pandemics

Congratulations to Marianne Jansson, virologist at Lund University and one of the researchers who has been granted funding for implementing a National Doctoral Programme in Virus Infections and Pandemics (NDP-VIP).

The doctoral programme aims to advance the training and recruitment of PhD students and postdocs in virology and pandemic preparedness. This collaborative initiative involves nine leading Swedish universities and provides an interdisciplinary research environment integrating virology, epidemiology, public health, and social sciences for comprehensive training and understanding of infectious disease dynamics.

The purpose of the funding for the doctoral program is to organize research-level education that strengthen research competence in the areas of antimicrobial resistance and/or viruses and pandemics in Sweden.

What does this program mean for Lund University, and more specifically, for research on pandemic-related viruses?

It will allow us to design and initiate national research training within virology, with special focus on pandemic-related viruses, together with colleagues at other universities.

How do you envision the outcome of the program?

Our aim is to prepare and strengthen PhD students and postdocs for independent careers in virology research at Lund university, and at other universities.

What is the next step?

The network will meet and plan upcoming virology courses during 2025.

The doctoral program will run for four years, starting from 2025.
